how to improve memoryAre you worried that you are starting to forget things? Do you get to the store and forget half the things you need? Do you end a conversation with a friend and wonder what you just talked about? These are all common tell tale signs that your memory needs a little bit of a boost. Read on and discover how to improve memory with these simple techniques.

How To Improve Memory

1. Meditate Regularly

For some people this may sound like a strange tactic or strategy. Mostly because through mainstream education we are really not taught how to meditate and the benefits of it. Therefore, it is more the unknowns that make us question it. However, there is research that shows clear evidence of how meditation can help “improve focus, concentration, creativity, and learning and reasoning” (Smith & Robinson, 2013).

Meditation works its “magic” by changing the actual brain. Brain images show that regular meditators have more activity in the left prefrontal cortex, an area of the brain associated with feelings of joy and equanimity. Meditation also increases the thickness of the cerebral cortex and encourages more connections between brain cells—all of which increases mental sharpness and memory ability. via How To Improve Your Memory

2. Have A Glass Of Wine

We’ve been hearing for some time now about the benefits of resveratrol. For those that may not be familiar with this term. Resveratrol is a flavonoid that is found in red wine. It is said to “protect against cancer and cardiovascular disease by acting as an antioxidant, antimutagen, and anti-inflammatory” (Farlex, 2013). As it works directly on the blood vessels it too helps with the health of the brain.

A French study that followed almost 4,000 people over the age of 65 found that light drinkers, who consumed up to two glasses of wine a day, were 45 percent less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease than nondrinkers. via Top 10 Ways To Improve Your Memory

3. Get Your Daily Fix Of Caffeine

Not only can your morning cup of coffee get you moving, but studies now show us that there are actual memory benefits.

“We’ve always known that caffeine has cognitive-enhancing effects, but its particular effects on strengthening memories and making them resistant to forgetting has never been examined in detail in humans,” said senior author of the paper Michael Yassa, formerly of Johns Hopkins and now the University of California, Irvine. “We report for the first time a specific effect of caffeine on reducing forgetting over 24 hours.” via Caffeine Might Improve Long Term Memory

4. Exercise Your Brain

Just as your body needs exercise so too does your brain. Regular brain exercise forces more oxygen to the brain, which improves memory and overall brain health.

Do crossword puzzles. Read a section of the newspaper that you normally skip. Take alternate routes when driving. Learn to play a musical instrument. Volunteer at a local school or community organization. via Memory Loss: 7 Tips To Improve Your Memory

5. Supplement With Fish Oil

Omega-3 fatty acid. Omega-3 fish oil supplements have piqued great interest. Studies suggest that a higher intake of omega-3 fatty acid from foods such as cold-water fish, plant and nut oils, and English walnuts are strongly linked to a lower risk of Alzheimer’s. However, thorough studies comparing omega-3s to placebo are needed to prove this memory benefit from supplements. via Fortifying Your Memory With Supplements

6. Clench Your Fist

If you’re having trouble remembering things at work, get a stress ball. The act of clenching your fist, if done correctly, can significantly improve your ability to recall information. Studies show that if you are right-handed, you should make a fist with your right hand before you try to memorize a piece of information. Then when you need to remember it, clench your left hand (the process is reversed for lefties.) Be sure to hold that position for a little while though; the study that discovered this had the participants squeezing for a good 45 seconds before letting go. via 11 Simple Ways To Imrpvoe Your Memory
